N-able RMM: auto-upgrade of RMM v9 agents on eligible Windows devices

We want to let you know we plan to perform an automated upgrade on Windows® devices still running the legacy v9 agent. This will help ensure devices under management are kept current with agent releases and their system upgrades.

Any Windows devices running the v9 will automatically update to the latest GA agent, v10.11.8. This change is set to happen in October starting on the 18th with a gradual deployment. No action is required from partners; however, you can complete the upgrade yourself, at any time, using RMM’s standard workflows (see User Guide for details).

Passportal Outage Update

The U.S. Passportal system remains stable and available.

All business-critical features are performing normally. We took measures to temporarily pause long-running scripts and disable non-essential integrations in order to boost capacity. These changes should not impact normal operations.

In addition, we will be releasing several improvements later today including:

  1. Optimization of Search API Traffic – Reduction in search index operations
  2. Monitoring heartbeat (monitoring augmentation) – Reduction in session database logging from monitoring tooling
  3. Web (Atom) error handling – Technical deficiency debug logging to database vs. external disk or service
  4. Sessions Data Clean-Up Cron – Housekeeping mechanism to reduce deadlocks and improve stability

Passportal Outage Update

We recognize the recent Passportal performance issues are frustrating and disruptive to your business. Our engineering teams continue to make this a top priority and we sincerely apologize for these challenges.

We continue to investigate the root cause and will update here when we have a more concrete path for remediation.

Steps taken:

  • Significantly increased capacity for the U.S. cluster to a R4.16Xlarge (upgraded from R4.4Xlarge) to help mitigate performance degradations
  • Decreased the threshold of our query timeouts to eliminate performance bottlenecks and backlogging

Next steps:

  • Analyze and optimize long-running queries that have been causing bottlenecks and backlogging
  • Review and upgrade database configuration
  • Assess deadlock errors
  • Enhance our tech stack to allow for better caching (Redis)

N-able™ Passportal™ is experiencing intermittent performance issues.

This outage is directly linked to performance and availability and is not security related.

This continues to be a high priority for us, and senior operations teams are working around the clock in conjunction with our development teams to finalize the remediation path.

We are committed to re-establishing our historical levels of stability and communicating in a transparent manner to help you stay up to date on key developments. We will continue to provide updates for you here as they become available. Here’s the steps that we’re working through to eliminate recent levels of degraded performance:

N-able Update: Product Support for Windows 11

We’re pleased to share an update on N-able’s support for Windows 11 across its product suite. Microsoft is expected to start a gradual release of Windows 11 on October 5th and we have been working to ensure that the N-able products are in a position to support this latest OS version, including our Patch Management solution.  

It’s important to note that Microsoft has indicated that it will control the pace of the rollout and when the update will be offered to individual Windows 10 devices. They currently state that they expect all eligible devices to be offered the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022. See here for more details.
