What’s New in N-able N-central 2022.2

Preview Of Customizing The Port On Which The N-central UI Runs


One exciting new feature, available as a Preview in N-central 2022.2, is the ability to control the port on which the N-central UI runs. The goal of this feature is to allow our on-premise N-central Partners to increase the security of their N-central instance by by controlling how and if their N-central UI is exposed to the internet.
This feature is hidden behind a feature flag, meaning that it’s not visible or enabled by default. If you’re interested in trying out this functionality (read on for more details!), please send an e-mail to ncpreview@n-able.com.
This new capability is available at the System level, in the Administration → Mail and Network Settings → Network Setup page. As this feature is only in Preview, and is disabled by default, the N-central UI will continue to run on port 443 until you navigate to that page, and change the port value. Note that changing the port will restart several processes on your N-central server, which will log out anyone logged into the system.
In a future release of N-central, when we declare this feature to be GA (Generally Available), fresh installs of N-central will have the UI run on port 8443, and upgrades will have the UI port continue to be on port 443, so that the N-central administrator has the option to change the port at their convenience.

N-able RMM: Advance notice of End of Support for VIPRE-based Managed Antivirus

We want to let you know we will be retiring VIPRE-based Managed Antivirus in 2022. From June 27th, we will no longer provide support for VIPRE Managed Antivirus.  

For partners who still use the VIPRE option, we recommend that you switch over to the Bitdefender-based Managed Antivirus engine instead. Bitdefender was introduced in 2015 alongside VIPRE and offers many additional policy options, including Apple macOS support and disk encryption, as well as frequent engine upgrades.  

Switching from VIPRE to Bitdefender is straight forward and can be done using a migrate option. For more information, click here. You can see which devices are using VIPRE Managed Antivirus with the associated column in the devices north pane.

Release notes 03/24/2022 Custom Landing Page

We are excited to announce the ability to set a landing page when opening Passportal web app. The web app now supports setting a landing page as the default when logging in. Users will be able to set their landing page in the web app.

N-able RMM: Automation Manager Upgrade, More Patch Management 3rd Party Apps, New Mac GA Agent

We’re pleased to let you know that this week’s RMM release includes an important update to Automation Manager, there’s a Mac GA Agent upgrade, plus another increase in third party apps supported by Patch Management. Here are all the details!

Automation Manager Upgrade

The latest updates to Automation Manager are now available and come in two parts:

  • The Automation Manager agent: The latest Windows RC Agent v10.12.0 (see here for release notes) now includes an upgrade to ‘ScriptRunner v2.40’. This is the Automation Manager agent that runs custom scripts created with Automation Manager, as well as the EDR script checks and a number of out-of-the-box Automated Tasks. Please update your test devices to this latest RC Agent for improvements to monitoring and automation.
  • The Automation Manager app: The latest version, v2.40, is now available for download from the RMM console. Just go to Settings > Script Manager, then click the ‘Automation Manager’ download button top right.

Patch Management – New Third-Party Applications

Continuing our progress of significantly increasing the number of apps we are delighted to announce a further 5 applications are being added to Patch Management today for both RMM and N-central.

These are Dropbox, Cisco Webex App *, Wireshark, PDF X-change and Treesize (free version).

N-able Passportal Mobile Application Release (2.0.0)

We are excited to announce the availability of documentation in the Passportal mobile application. The application now supports viewing of recorded documentation in both the Company Vault and Client Vaults. Users will have access to the same Documentation and Clients as they do in the web console.

ADVANCE NOTICE: EDR Windows Agent Update Tuesday, March 8 – 21.7 SP2 (21.7.5.1080)

We are pleased to announce that Tuesday, March 8, the Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) product will be releasing a new agent for Windows. The Windows agent will see an update to 21.7 SP2 (21.7.5.1080). We strongly recommend upgrading as soon as possible to provide the maximum level of protection available.

Patch Management – Third-Party Improvements + New Supported Applications

We are delighted to announce a significantly improved Third-Party Application Update offering for both RMM and N-central.

Our patch content team has worked on improving how we discover, create, and test application updates to design a more efficient and scalable solution that gives us the opportunity to increase the number of applications we support.

As of today, we will begin the process of adding new applications. Applications will be launched gradually over the coming weeks and months as we focus on making sure that new apps roll out successfully.

The first 2 apps we will be adding are Onedrive and Ccleaner

Further applications we have queued and ready are Microsoft (Various), Cisco (Various), Evernote, Libre Office, Gotomeeting, Dropbox, various PDF applications, GoogleDrive, and many more.

We are also pleased to share our new, improved, auto-updating applications list. This list should be used as a reference to see what we support, the latest versions, the architecture and languages we support, exclusions for firewalls, and any notes worth emphasizing from testing. For example, we will advise if an application will only update if it is installed for all users.
