Upcoming Policy Change – Auto-Enablement of Local Upgrade/Downgrade in SentinelOne Consoles

Target Date: July 6, 2025

Applies to: All SentinelOne EDR customers

Summary:

To align with SentinelOne’s platform enhancements and improve endpoint security, N-able will auto-enable the “Local Upgrade/Downgrade Authorization” policy toggle at the global Policy level across all SentinelOne consoles on July 6, 2025.

Key Impacts & Actions Required:

  • Automation Impact: This change may affect agent upgrades/downgrades using automated scripts. Review guidance here.
  • Policy Inheritance: Applies per the existing model (global > account > site).
  • Manual Configuration: If your accounts or sites do not inherit the global policy, you will need to enable this setting manually. To simplify the process, we’ve developed a script package that automates the rollout.

Next Steps:

  • Review current automation processes.
  • Confirm policy inheritance settings.
  • Apply manual changes where required using the provided script.

N-sight: Introducing the New Asset Details Panel for Viewing Asset Info At a Glance

We are pleased to let you know that you can now view a new, resizable asset details panel in N-sight on the new Assets View, providing deeper insight into individual assets, by organizing and exposing a rich set of data points without cluttering the main grid view.

The new panel uses information gathered by the new Modern Agent, providing a comprehensive asset data set, all in one place.

Flexible, resizable view

You can freely resize the Asset Details panel by clicking and dragging, giving you quick access to the info you need while keeping the grid view visible in the background, so you can work more effectively without switching between views or losing context.

Need to see the full panel? No problem, just maximize it, and get everything at a glance, without losing access to essential navigation functions.

N-central: upcoming change to the Analytics data stream

What is happening?

Later this year, as part of N-central version 2025.4, we will automatically change the scope for the data N-central sends to the Analytics data warehouse from the ‘full’ data option to the ‘minimal’ data option.

How does this change impact you?

This change has no impact on what you can use Analytics for, or which data you can access through Analytics.

However, it enhances the reliability of data being sent to the Analytics warehouse, improving the data accuracy in Direct Data Access, dashboards, and reports. For on-premise partners, it might also reduce the cost associated with servers sending data to Analytics.

(see ‘Why is this happening?’ below for why that is)

Does this impact the data available through Report Manager?

No. While the N-central database is the source system for both Analytics and Report Manager the two don’t receive exactly the same data points. The setting shown above is only relevant to the data being sent to Analytics, so Report Manager is not affected by this.

What do you need to do?

You don’t need to do anything; the change will be applied automatically as part of 2025.4 but if you want to make sure today that Analytics is setup to be as reliable as possible, you can make the change themselves now.

To do so, you need to log into N-central with a product admin account. Navigate to the Service Organization level > Administration > Analytics Data Export

Select the “Only export minimal…” option under the ‘Scope’ header (see image above)

Why is this happening / What is the difference between the two options?

The two options were introduced when Analytics was first released in Preview. The ‘minimal’ option meant N-central servers would generate and send only the data needed for the Analytics dashboards available at the time, while the ‘full’ option would make a much larger data set available to Analytics, regardless of if it was consumed by the Analytics warehouse (and subsequently visible to partners through DDA and/or dashboards) or not.

As the product has evolved so has the ’minimal’ data option and today everything we make available to partners, either through dashboards and reports in the N-central UI, or via Direct Data Access, is available by selecting that ‘minimal’ data option.

This means the ‘full’ data option is redundant as it provides no additional capabilities or data in Analytics. Instead, as it causes the N-central server to generate more data than required it puts an unnecessary strain on the ‘data pipeline’ which can lead to issues with the accuracy of even the data that is made available to partners.

To reduce the risk of gaps and errors in the data partners see and access, we have decided it is best to make the ‘minimal’ data option the default option.

Release Take Control – Cloud 2025.05

This release focuses primarily on bug fixing, security hardening, and key backend improvements across Take Control Cloud. It also includes initial enhancements aligned with security integrations, including new audit log event tracking and IP validation features.

Security Improvements

  • Pre-Session Authentication Logging: Failed login attempts and other pre-session events are now captured and shown in the Audit Log and Notifications areas, enhancing visibility and auditing capabilities.

System Shell Recording Enhancements

  • New System Shell session videos are now properly displayed in the Admin Area Session Reports, Windows Console Session History, and Web Session Reports.

Stability and Bug Fixes

  • Fixes to improve backend processing, login flows, and script history accuracy.

Blocked IP Detection and Access Control

As part of our continued investment in Take Control cloud security, we’ve introduced a new capability that helps partners monitor and restrict login activity from IP addresses associated with VPNs, Proxies, and Tor networks.

How it works

  • By default, Take Control does not block these connections. However, all login attempts originating from IP addresses flagged as potentially problematic (e.g., VPN, Proxy, Tor) are now detected and logged. This provides admins with greater visibility into who is accessing their systems and from where.
  • A new security setting is now available in the Admin Area > Profile > Identification > Security tab (see screenshot). Admins can choose to block login access to the Admin Area and/or Technician Console from these IP types by enabling the toggles: “Block access to Admin Area from VPN, Proxy or Tor endpoints” and “Block access to Tech Console from VPN, Proxy or Tor endpoints”. When these options are enabled, login attempts from flagged IPs will be actively rejected before access is granted.

How Detection Works

  • We leverage the Udger IP reputation database, a commercial and continuously updated service, which classifies known IPs used by VPNs, anonymizers, proxies, and Tor exit nodes. This ensures a high-quality, accurate, and up-to-date detection mechanism.

This means that

  • Detection is always active and logged.
  • Blocking is optional and configurable per area (Admin Area / Console).
  • Helps improve security posture and reduce potential misuse of remote access by anonymized or spoofed locations.

Note: This is a large release with multiple dependencies. The rollout will happen progressively during the week.
