N-able Login: strengthening your account security with mandatory MFA for all users

At N-able, we believe that strong security should be simple, consistent, and built into every experience.

To strengthen account security, we’re making Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) mandatory for all users who sign in using N-able Login (formerly MSP SSO).

Why MFA Matters

MFA is one of the most effective ways to prevent unauthorised access. It adds a critical layer of protection by requiring users to verify their identity through multiple methods. This helps reduce the risk of phishing, credential theft, and other attacks targeting login credentials

We know MFA can sometimes feel like a hurdle, especially when recovery codes are lost or admins aren’t sure how to help. That’s why we’re improving the experience.

What’s Changing?

MFA will be required for all users accessing N-able products via N-able Single Sign-On (N-able Login). Whether you’re a new user or a long-time customer, you’ll be prompted to set up MFA if it’s not already configured.

This change will apply to:

  • All products using N-able Login:any user logging in with N-able Login to any N-able product.
  • New and existing users: MFA setup will now be part of the login journey.
  • Admins: Can still reset MFA for users, but recovery codes may be required.

If your organisation uses an external identity provider (IDP) like Microsoft Entra ID, MFA will be validated via token claims (no duplicate prompts!)

Supported MFA methods

N-Able Login supports Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP) authentication via industry-standard authenticator apps, including:

  • Microsoft Authenticator
  • Google Authenticator
  • Authy
  • Duo Mobile (TOTP mode)

This method generates a rotating 6-digit code that users must enter after their password to complete the login process.

What you need to do next

  • Check your MFA status: If you haven’t set it up, you’ll be prompted at next login.
  • Review admin capabilities: Make sure your team knows how to reset MFA using recovery codes or admin tools.
  • Configure Entra ID properly: Ensure MFA is enforced for the N-able app in your Azure settings.

This enforcement is part of a broader roadmap in which we’re committed to making security seamless and scalable—whether you’re managing a few endpoints or thousands

⚠️ Windows 11 25H2 Compatibility issue with Managed Antivirus Version 7.9.22.537.

The current Antivirus (AV) agent is not compatible with Microsoft’s latest Windows 11 25H2 release.

What You Need to Know

If you are planning to upgrade to Windows 11 25H2, we recommend delaying the update until our next AV agent release becomes available. This will ensure a smooth and uninterrupted protection experience.

If You’ve Already Upgraded

Don’t worry—your existing AV agent will continue to operate normally, though you may see a warning message.

However, please note that new installations or repair operations of the AV agent will fail on Windows 11 25H2 systems.

Our Next Steps

We’re actively working on a new version of the AV agent that will fully support Windows 11 25H2. Once released, we’ll notify all users and partners immediately.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we ensure full compatibility and protection across the latest Windows environments.

For assistance, contact the N-able Support Team via N-ableMe or reach out to your N-able Partner representative.

N-sight Enhancements: Patch Management Feature Status Column, Password Prompt Changes, Windows Service Checks Streamlining

These updates reflect product enhancements guided by the direct input of our partners, enabling us to focus development efforts on what matters most in real-world environments. We value the trust placed in us and, where possible, actively translate operational feedback into product improvements that support your success.

Here’s a short video to help you take advantage of the today’s enhancements and what’s about to release in the next couple of weeks…

The following updates will roll out gradually over the coming days to all partners:

New Patch Management Feature Status Column

A new patch management status column in the north pane makes it easy to see install status and issues across devices, helping you quickly spot deployment gaps and take action where needed.

This follows the recent update to add patch management policies to the Feature Policy Report, for improved oversight of patch management settings across your estate.

Patch Management Engine (PME) 2.13.4

PME Engine Update Announcement

We’re pleased to announce that a new version of PME has been released. This update will be available to N-central and N-sight assets.

This release focuses on bug fixes and performance improvements, including:

Improved Patch History Handling

We’ve improved how PME queries historically installed patches. Previously, changes in system environments, such as OS build updates, could cause the WUA API to stop returning patch data, resulting in patches being incorrectly stuck in an “In-progress” or “Pending” state in reporting analytics. This update resolves that issue, ensuring more accurate patch status reporting.

Improved ESU Patch Detection

We’ve refined the logic for detecting and offering Extended Security Updates (ESUs), leading to more accurate patch availability and coverage.

Removal of Preview Patches Missing Supersedence

Preview patches that lack proper supersedence metadata have been removed from scan detections. These patches can interfere with our patch offering logic and are generally not recommended by Microsoft for production environments. PME will now exclude them, however we will consider their re-introduction once metadata has been improved.

N-able Mail Assure: Reminder: Mandatory 2FA for All User Types

As part of our ongoing efforts to help and protect, non-SSO users of N-able Mail Assure will be required to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) in order to continue using the product.

Mail Assure currently requires multifactor authentication for SSO users.

Beginning 29 September 2025, two-factor authentication (2FA) will be required for all non-SSO user types, including sub-admins, technicians, domain users, and email users.

Any users that have not already done so will be guided through 2FA configuration when they log in.

We use standard time-based one-time-password (TOTP) 2FA, so you can use the same apps to manage this as for your other applications.
