Vulnerability Management – software-scanner.exe 6.14.6

This update resolves an issue where temporary scan folders (WAAPI*) in C:\Windows\Temp could be left behind if no user was logged in when a scan completed.

Fixes

  • Temporary folder cleanup issue resolved – Fixed a bug where WAAPI* folders created in C:\Windows\Temp directory during software detection scans were not always removed if no active user session was logged on at scan completion.

Improvements

  • Automatic cleanup of existing temporary folders – The scanner now removes any previously orphaned WAAPI* folders in C:\Windows\Temp during subsequent scheduled scans, including those created prior to this update, even if no user is logged on to the device.

How the Scanner Uses Temporary Folders

During a scan, the software-scanner.exe:

  • Creates temporary WAAPI* folders in C:\Windows\Temp
  • Uses these folders to store scan signature and processing data
  • Deletes them automatically once the scan completes

These folders:

  • Do not contain persistent or customer data
  • Are only used during active scans
  • Can be safely deleted manually if present on disk

Customer Impact

  • Prevents accumulation of temporary folders in C:\Windows\Temp
  • Reduces disk clutter on systems where scans run without logged-in users
  • Improves consistency of scanner cleanup behavior

Deployment

  • No action required
  • Update is delivered automatically via the agent
