With version 24.12, the Cove team has enhanced the Backup Manager installation experience in several ways. We also made several updates to the Cove Management Console, Cove Continuity, and Cove for Microsoft 365.
Limited Availability: Backup Manager Unified Installation Flow
First, we are happy to announce that the new Cove Backup Manager Unified Installation Flow is now available in limited preview.
This update simplifies the user experience for adding new servers and workstations and includes a new, user-friendly Backup Manager installation wizard. We also added a new “Recover Device” option to the Device Properties menu to streamline technician workflows.
Additional Backup Manager updates include:
Enhanced Network Share Backup
Improved accuracy of user permissions restores and improved status reporting with enhanced backup status insights for network shares.
Negative Duration Sessions
Sessions with negative durations will now be marked as Completed with Errors and remain available for restoration.
Improved MS SQL Backup
Enhanced detection mechanisms and overall backup performance for MS SQL.
MySQL Backup Reporting
Improved reporting for MySQL backup statuses, ensuring more transparency and reliability.
Cove Management Console
In the Cove Management Console, we updated the toolbar actions and behavior for multiple device types to only show relevant commands for the selected device types. A toast message is now displayed when selected devices are of different device types.
We also changed the icons for all the actions displayed above the pie charts (Refresh, Clear All Filters, Reset View and Save View).
Cove Continuity
With this release, we addressed several restore issues encountered in Recovery Testing and Standby Image:
- Fixed the false negative identification of a boot attempt for Windows Server Core.
- Resolved the issue where a restore operation failed in Azure Standby Image with the error: “Cannot attach data disk ‘…’ to VM ‘…’ because the disk’s ToBeDetached flag is set to true.”
- Improved the Recovery Location auto-update logic to minimize its impact on ongoing restore processes.
Cove for Microsoft 365
The backup dashboard was extended with new columns for M365 auto-add new entities for each data source: M365 Exchange auto add new users, M365 OneDrive auto add new users, M365 SharePoint auto add new sites, M365 Teams auto add new teams. Showing these columns on backup dashboard will streamline and add transparency during customer onboarding.
