Migration of Microsoft 365 Sync Permissions for Mail Assure

Partners using N-able Mail Assure’s “Microsoft 365 Sync” feature will see a notification when navigating to the “Domains overview” page advising them to migrate their sync authorisation. This migration is required by Microsoft, and unfortunately cannot be automated or done by N-able. More information is available in our documentation centre.

Migration must be done by December 31, 2021 to avoid any interruption to the Microsoft 365 sync.

The notification will only appear if there are migrations to be completed. Newly configured (or re-configured) syncs do not need to be migrated. The notification appears in a blue panel on the “Domains overview” page:

The “Domains overview” page will notify partners that need to migrate permissions

The “Migrate permissions” button will open a wizard to help you migrate the permissions for each tenant you have connected to Mail Assure.

A wizard guides partners through the authorisation process

The “Migrate” button will open the standard Microsoft 365 permissions dialog in a separate tab/window. Use the same account with administrator access that you used to link Mail Assure with the Microsoft 365 tenant.

You will see the standard Microsoft 365 authorisation page

After migrating permissions for each tenant, you will be returned to the wizard to migrate any remaining tenant permissions, until the migration is complete. Note that you do not need to log in to the customer admin that has the sync configured in order to migrate the permissions, and can instead migrate all tenant permissions from the top level partner admin account.

Note that the migration grants permission for N-able to read the list of mailboxes, but it does not revoke the permission for SolarWinds to do so. We recommend that once you’ve confirmed that the new permissions have been granted, you do remove the SolarWinds application (we are unable to do this for you). You can find instructions explaining how to remove an Enterprise Application from Azure Active Directory in our documentation.
