MSP RMM: Next Set of MSP Anywhere Take Control Enhancements

We’re very pleased to line up a new set of MSP Anywhere Take Control improvements, addressing a number of suggestions and feature request by our users. The updates comprise both an Agent (Host side) and a Viewer, and we have updates coming out for both the Apple and Microsoft platforms.

We also have an update to the Take Control Android app that’s due to go live very shortly. In this update we’re offering a fully featured Windows keyboard, support for true color modes and Voice-over-IP chat support during a Take Control session, all from the convenience of your smartphone.

For Windows, we are delighted to introduce Agent and Viewer 6.80.16. These latest versions contain the following enhancements:

FEATURE: Optional experimental support for 4K resolutions
FEATURE: Added Clipboard of passwords to locked devices
FEATURE: Limiting of copy / paste function in modes where this does not apply
FEATURE: Improved Copy Paste functionality
FEATURE: Improved Chat function handling
BUGFIX: Fixes issue with Viewer install location on upgrade
BUGFIX: Better communications handling
BUGFIX: Improved responsiveness when changing monitors

Improvements to copy / paste

One area in which we received a lot of customer feedback is the copy / paste feature. In this latest update, we’re introducing keyboard shortcuts designed to help synchronise the local and remote clipboards:

  • Shift+Ctrl+C – Syncs the remote clipboard to the technician’s machine.
  • Shift+Ctrl+V – Syncs the technician’s clipboard to the remote machine.

This allows you to make sure both sides are in sync before any copy/paste. For instance, if the technician wants to make sure she correctly copies something from the remote session she is in, she just has to use two similar shortcuts, first Ctrl+C and then Shift+Ctrl+C. Similarly, if for some reason the remote paste is not working as expected, the technician can simply do Shift+Ctrl+V and then Ctrl+V.

Advanced copy / paste support for locked machines

One of the most common workflows for partners to access customer machines is to have credentials for those machines stored in a password management solution. With the MSP Anywhere version 6.80.16 update, users will be able to paste into login text fields for both Microsoft and Apple devices – this uses a special command, as Microsoft and Apple generally don’t support the standard paste action into these login fields.

To use this feature, go to Copy / Paste > Insert Copied Password, or use the shortcut key Shift+Ctrl+X.

Note: Take case when using this feature. Do not leave sensitive information in the clipboard contents.

A better sized chat window

We’re adding the ability for you to run the Chat function in a smaller, much more manageable window. To try this, first open a chat via the General Tab, and when the window is open on the remote machine, select the “Minimise” option highlighted here:

No_User_chat_header

When this is selected, the chat window will run in a smaller window that permanently sits in the foreground, as shown here:

For MacOS, we’re pleased to announce we’re making Viewer v1.01.02 and Agent v5.98.80 available:

FEATURE: Unicode support for the insertion of characters, making the keyboard translation more robust
FEATURE: Added support for Insert Copied Passwords
BUGFIX: Fixing a bug with image capture at the login screen
BUGFIX: Corrected an issue with non standard characters on FTP
BUGFIX: CPU Load optimisation
BUGFIX: Better support for SHIFT+key combinations
BUGFIX: Address translation issues

We’re already working on our next set of Mac enhancements for MSP Anywhere Take Control, so that it offers the same great feature set that’s available for Windows machines. We’ll keep you posted with updates on this blog as new enhancements become available for the Mac.
