What’s New in Cove 25.10 – Limited Tech Previews, FIPS 140-3 Compliance for Servers and Workstations

Listen to Eric Harless, Head Nerd for Cove, as he unveils the Cove 25.10 release.

In Cove 25.10, the second phase of our Anomaly Detection as a Service (ADaaS) functionality, Critical Configuration Changes, enters Limited Tech Preview.

Other key updates include:

  • FIPS 140-3 compliance for servers and workstations
  • In-Place Archive in Microsoft Exchange enters Limited Tech Preview
  • Faster Microsoft Teams and SharePoint backups
  • Ability to schedule Executive Summary Reports (Public Preview)

This capability will provide MSPs and IT teams with proactive visibility into changes that could critically impact backup integrity.

Built-in to Cove, it continuously monitors key backup and platform configurations and sends just-in-time alerts when an anomalous modification occurs. When a critical backup configuration change is detected, users will receive the following email alert:

  • What happened: (e.g., backup schedule deleted, retention reduced, backup selection modified)
  • Who performed the action (name and email)
  • When it occurred (date and time)
  • Suggested remediation steps (if applicable)

These alerts will help you quickly identify potential malicious activity and remediate issues before data loss occurs.

The current release will focus on backup configurations for servers and workstations. As we continue to enhance this capability, coverage will also be extended to Microsoft 365 backup configurations.

Users can create notifications for critical configuration changes they would like to monitor.

New participants get access every Monday and will get an email when the feature is active for them.

All encryption for the purpose of backup and restore for servers and workstations now leverage FIPS 140-3 approved algorithms. FIPS mode will be automatically activate in the Backup Manager during startup.

Devices will not be FIPS-compliant and will operate in standard mode if:

  • Device uses Blowfish for backup encryption
  • Device uses Linux OS with glibc version older than 2.14
  • Device uses OS that Cove doesn’t officially support (can’t guarantee it will work as we don’t test on non-supported OS)

Users can use command Ctrl-C to terminate the progress bar in the terminal during recovery, providing the opportunity to troubleshoot and come back to the recovery process.

Additionally, we now support out-of-the-box recovery for RHEL 10 systems, including AlmaLinux 10 and Rocky Linux 10.

In-Place Archive backup extends Microsoft Exchange protection to archived mailboxes, enabling backup and restores of archived emails alongside the primary mailbox for comprehensive data protection and compliance. Key benefits include:

  • Comprehensive coverage: Primary and archived mailboxes protected together
  • Compliance support: Helps meet retention and audit requirements
  • Granular recovery: Item-level and full-archive restores available to address compromised or loss data

Teams backups now skip non-restorable permission details and prioritizes what you can recover in a disaster scenario, resulting in more efficient and prioritized backups.

If a SharePoint backup ends with errors, the next run now uses Microsoft delta queries rather than starting over, improving speed and reliability.

Users can now select a desired security type in the “VM Settings” step of both the “one-Time Restore to Azure” and “Standby Image to Azure” wizards.

Users can now schedule reports to be automatically generated and delivered on the 5th of each month for individual customers or office sites. This workflow automation helps ensure a consistent reporting cadence for customers and key stakeholders, further supporting you in your transition from SLA to XLA reporting.

Historical charts have been modernized with our APEX design system, the unified UI framework across N-able products. This update brings visual consistency, improved usability, and a more intuitive experience for users.
