N-sight: Active Issues Upgrade, New Automation & Monitoring Scripts, Dialog Speed Improvements and Patch Updates

In today’s update, we are pleased to announce an upgrade to the Active Issues view, making it easier to organize and address failing checks at scale, plus the addition of five more automation cookbook scripts, including an easy way to deploy the Adlumin Agent for MDR/XDR partners.

We’ve also improved the speed for several feature settings dialogs, there is an update to Patch Management scheduling reliability, a new Take Control Viewer for Linux, and we’ll be auto-updating the latest Mac GA Agent so all Apple workstations will start to show in the new Assets View.

All these updates will be rolling out over the next couple of days. Here are all the details…

Active Issues Upgrade

The Active Issues view enables you to see all monitored assets that are not in a ‘normal’ state and provides an easy, consolidated view of assets with issues. We are excited to announce that the Active Issues screen has been upgraded to have a new look and feel, with multiple enhancements to help you quickly identify and respond to check problems. We will be rolling this out in the coming days!

The new features include:

  • Introduction of interactive summary widgets
  • Column filtering and search
  • Advanced filtering using the filter builder
  • Consistency with other modern UI views in N-sight

New Widgets

The introduction of widgets to the top of the screen allows you to view specific groupings of problem checks at a glance. The widgets are also interactive, allowing you to click on the different elements to see the filtered information within the grid below. The new widgets include:

  • Checks by Status
  • Checks by Asset Type
  • Failing Checks by Customer
  • Top Failed Checks
  • Top Cleared Checks

If you would prefer not to see the widget charts, you can turn them off using the three-dot icon in the top right of the screen.

Advanced filtering

The updated screen allows for advanced filtering via the filter builder, individual columns, and the interactive widgets. The introduction of this more sophisticated filtering allows you to drill down easily to find checks that fit your requirements. From here you can run or clear checks like usual.

View Customisation

The updated UI allows for additional flexibility by allowing you to customise your own view to your preference; hide columns, change the row density, and table styling via the icons to the top right of the table.

You are also now able to export the contents of your table to Excel, PDF or CSV.

Five New Out-of-the-Box Scripts for Security, Systems, Cleanup and Application Control

We’re excited to introduce five new scripts designed to enhance monitoring, security, automation, and troubleshooting within your N-sight dashboard. This update includes one script for Mac and four for Windows – with three as checks and two as tasks.

  1. Adlumin Deployment (Application Control Task) – This script automates the deployment of the N-able MDR agent via N-sight, ensuring a seamless installation process across managed devices. Here are the steps to take advantage of this feature:
  • Create client tenant in Adlumin and configure as desired
  • Obtain the Tenant ID for the client from the Downloads section of Adlumin
  • Use MDR deployment script in N-sight to deploy Adlumin MDR agents to workstations and servers, the Tenant ID from step 2 will need to be used when creating the MDR deployment task.
  • Review task success in N-sight to ensure deployment of agents.
  • Verify in the Adlumin dashboard under Endpoints that all workstations and servers are accounted for.
  1. Mac TCC Permissions Changes (Security Check) – This script monitors changes to Transparency, Consent, and Control (TCC) permissions on a Mac device over the last 72 hours. It is designed to fail whenever a change is detected, ensuring that unauthorized modifications are flagged. It allows you to quickly detect and respond to unauthorized permission changes for Mac devices. The 72-hour window accounts for weekends, and the Clear Check function can be used to reset monitoring as needed.
  1. Patch Management Engine Version (Application Control Check) – This script ensures PME (Patch Management Engine) version consistency across deployments and verifies that its associated services are running correctly, to help maintain a uniform PME version across deployments. The script will fail if:
    • The PME version is inconsistent across devices.
    • PME services are not running on the device.
  1. Windows 11 Compatibility (System Control Check) – This script determines whether a device meets the minimum requirements for Windows 11 compatibility, allowing you to quickly identify which devices are eligible for an upgrade, by verifying:
    • TPM 2.0 availability
    • 64-bit OS
    • Supported CPU
  1. Workstation Daily Maintenance (Cleanup Task) – This policy is designed to run as a task daily to ensure optimal workstation configuration and security, thereby providing improved system performance and ensuring that the system is running at its optimal speed, with fewer interruptions and better response times. It performs the following tasks:

a. Security & System Settings:

  • Enables User Account Control (UAC)
  • Enables Windows SmartScreen
  • Disables Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)
  • Disables Fast Start (QuickBoot)
  • Disables drive autorun (USB/CD)

b. Performance & Stability:

  • Flushes DNS cache
  • Restarts Windows Update Service if stopped
  • Sets PowerShell to RemoteSigned
  • Deletes temporary files

c. System Updates & Power Management

  • Prevents sleep/hibernation while plugged in (to facilitate updates)
  • Syncs system time to the proper time server

Faster Load Times for Selected Dialogs

Following on from a performance improvement the other week, we are pleased to share that we have also been able to speed up the load times of these dialogs:

  • System Tray Application Settings dialog
  • Network Discovery Settings dialog
  • Web Protection Settings dialog
  • Risk Intelligence Settings dialog

We will continue to look for innovative ways to improve performance and loads times of the dashboard.

Improvement to Patch Installation Schedules

We have an update going out that addresses an issue whereby occasionally patches could install outside of the stated schedule. It had affected some partners, so we are pleased to be able to roll this improvement out. It’s been one in a series of updates that we have put out over time to improve the robustness of the patching solution.

Update to Take Control Linux Viewer

Following the update shared in January regarding an updated Linux Viewer for Take Control, we have now improved the user experience in N-sight for any technicians logging into N-sight from a Linux machine. It will now automatically update the Take Control Viewer to the new version when you next initiate a Take Control session.

Apple Agent GA Auto-Update

Following the Mac Agent update in March, we will start to auto-deploy the latest GA agent out to all Apple devices. This is a gradual rollout that will run over the course of a couple of weeks. It means that all your Apple workstation devices will start to show in the modern Assets View in N-sight.
