Cove 24.11: Improved Microsoft 365 Offboarding!

With version 24.11, the Cove Data Protection team has further streamlined Microsoft 365 user offboarding, increased Microsoft 365 billing transparency, and made several UX improvements to Cove Continuity. Additionally, Event-based Notifications are now in limited public preview.

As part of our ongoing effort to improve and streamline Microsoft 365 user offboarding, Cove users can now remove Microsoft 365 users from billing via the Protected Users tab of Tenant Properties. This update streamlines technician workflow significantly, as a multi-step process can now be accomplished with a single click.

Additionally, we enhanced Restore to Alternate User audit logs with source account information, for better visibility into protected data created by offboarded users.

Cove Management Console

We also made important changes in the Cove Management Console related to Microsoft 365 billing. These updates will improve billing transparency and give users more control over backup selection. In the Export Statistics report:

  • The Total Protected User Mailboxes column is now Total M365 Billable Users.
  • M365 Protected User Mailboxes is now M365 Teams Protected Owners.
  • Skipped Entities is now M365 Offboarded Billable Users.

Additional updates to the Cove Management Console include:

  • New default profile backup filters for Files and Folders. Note: New default filters will be applied for new profiles only. Existing profiles will need to be updated manually via the drop-down.
  • Added an attribute for custom columns to define related plugins.

Cove Continuity

We made several key updates to Cove Continuity, which will enhance user experience and reliability. First, extensive configuration capabilities were added to the Recovery Location Dashboard. We also improved access to recovery location details, which has been streamlined by adding a pop-up in the right-hand panel.

A View button has been added to the Recovery Testing and Standby Image dashboards, as well. This simplifies navigation to the Recovery Verification tab if a restore completes with “Failed” or “Completed with errors” status.

We also enhanced the boot detection engine to better handle certain failed boot cases, such as Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), for Standby Image (ESXi) and Standby Image (Hyper-V). And we resolved an issue causing verification screenshots to be blurred during a failed boot when devices had auto-login enabled in the registry.

Finally, we addressed a problem reported by our partners that was causing restores to fail after a folder was renamed in Files and Folders but remained unchanged in System State.
