In Cove 26.3, Group-Based Data Protection is now generally available for all customers. This allows users to select Microsoft Entra ID security groups to define how and which groups of Microsoft users are protected in Cove, instead of selecting them one by one. This will help you apply consistent policies across security groups and protect the right user segments without protecting the whole tenant.
Feature releases like Group-Based Data Protection and other enhancements made in Cove 26.3 further our mission to support larger Microsoft tenants.

Backup Manager
New Platform Support
Cove Data Protection now officially supports Windows Server 2025 and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Customers can now deploy the Backup Manager on systems running these operating systems and protect their workloads using the full range of backup and recovery capabilities.
Microsoft 365 Protection
Group-Based Data Protection GA
Users can now select Microsoft Entra ID security groups to define how and which groups of Microsoft users are protected in Cove, instead of selecting them one by one.
This helps you apply consistent policies across security groups and protect the right user segments (e.g., teachers vs. students, employees vs. contractors) without protecting the whole tenant. This feature currently supports Exchange Online and OneDrive. Key benefits include:
- Better coverage: reduces the risk of missed backups and improves protection consistency through centralized group-based control
- Faster onboarding: select existing security groups to enable protection in a few clicks
- Less manual work: future users added to selected security groups are automatically added for protection

Simply choose your Entra ID security groups to define protected users, and configure protection either by groups or by individual users (per tenant). New group members will be automatically added for protection.
Note: switching to group-based protection will override and clear all individual user selections.
FastTrack Onboarding for SharePoint and Teams
We’re extending our FastTrack Onboarding capabilities to now include SharePoint and Teams, in addition to Exchange Online and OneDrive.
FastTrack Onboarding allows you to protect Microsoft data faster with fewer clicks by providing a streamline onboarding experience. This feature is especially useful when onboarding large or multiple tenants.

Faster Exchange Backups
Exchange backup sessions are now faster by skipping attachment reads for unchanged messages and uses delta statistics during processing. This typically reduces backup duration by approximately 30% (varies by tenant), with environments that have heavy attachment usage realizing a larger reduction in backup duration.
Exchange Online Export to PST Enhancements
Exchange Online Export to PST now supports export of large mailboxes (100 GB+). Additionally, users now have more visibility into the export process by showing the mailbox type and status in the export flow.
Teams Restore Wizard UI Update
The Teams Restore Wizard is now built on our new APEX design system, bringing a more unified and consistent restore experience across the product UI.
