Cove 24.2: Continuity and User Action Log Updates

With version 24.2, we updated the Continuity capabilities of Cove Data Protection, added new functionality to the User Action Log, and made several updates based on partner feedback.

Continuity

Standby Image to ESXi Update: VMDK

We’re pleased to announce an expansion of Standby Image for ESXi. With this update, which is currently in public preview, users can set up continuous restore to VMDK files on NAS/Network shares.

New Recovery Report Logic

We also updated the logic for sending recovery reports for Standby Image for Hyper-V and Standby Image for Azure. Previously, recovery reports were sent after every restore session, even if a boot check was not performed subsequently. So, customers with hourly backups received 24 reports a day.

Now, recovery emails reporting positive restore results will be dispatched only following a boot check, streamlining communication and reducing inbox clutter. Recovery emails indicating negative results will continue to be sent whenever a restore attempt fails, regardless of the boot check frequency.

Bug Fixes and Enhancements

  • Resolved a customer-reported bug: “Remove Obsolete Data Restore Flag Leading to Corruption.”
  • Fixed an error: “Failed to open VHD disk. Error: Access is denied.”
  • Addressed an issue where a backup session was not restored by the Recovery Service if a previous restore became unresponsive after an interruption.
  • Fixed a problem in Standby Image to ESXi where the set CPU/RAM configurations were not applied to a delta-restored device.

User Action Log

Finish Export in Background

With this update, users can easily switch to the dashboard or other views while identification, sent files, and loading occur in the background.

Export Entries Limit

Previously, users could export an unlimited number of entries in the User Action Log. Now, if a user selects more than 500,000 entries to export, they will get an error message indicating that it is not possible. We introduced limits to improve export performance and eliminate timeout failures.

Easy File Name Change

It was difficult for users to locate where to change file names in the UAL. With this update, we’ve made it easier to locate this capability.

Local Time Zone Support

Support for local time zones in UAL and in Export logic was added.

Column Management

It’s now possible to choose specific columns you want to see or hide. Essential columns such as Date, User, Action, and Target columns always remain visible.
