Resolution of intermittent login issues at MAX Mail control panel

2012-12-20 7:45am PST — Earlier this morning, some customers were experiencing an error message when logging into the control panel.  The issue occurred intermittently for some customers between 09:22 UTC and 10:54 UTC, dependent on which of the load balanced control panel servers the customer was being directed to.

The issue was related to a communication issue between one of the control panel servers and the master configuration database server, both of which reside in the same data center.  We had not seen this connectivity issue nor failure mode previously.  Our engineers restarted the affected control panel server which solved the issue, and we have not seen any evidence of any problems since then.

The engineering team is investigating further to determine what steps can or should be taken to mitigate the connectivity problem.
