We now believe that the cause of the performance problems was IO contention on our backend database servers. We have made some changes to configuration parameters on our database servers in an attempt to alleviate IO contention. We wouldn’t normally do this during office hours but we believe that the current situation warranted it.
Our own internal monitoring systems report that performance is nearer the levels we would expect and Dashboard responsiveness seems much improved (verified from UK and Adelaide).
