Dashboard v5.24 and Agent v8.13.0 RC

Dashboard 5.24 and Agent 8.13.0 RC will be released to all territories tonight so that they available for start of business tomorrow Wednesday 20th June 2012. Highlights are bandwidth throttling for Managed Online Backup, remediation for missed backups, report-only performance monitoring, API updates, a rewritten SNMP engine in the Agent and various bug fixes and improvements.

The release notes are as follows:

Dashboard v5.24

Managed Online Backup

  • UPDATE: Run all Managed Online Backup plugins from Dashboard
  • UPDATE: Set bandwidth throttling limits across servers and workstations at multiple clients and sites
  • UPDATE: Option to re-run Managed Online Backup session automatically should DSC Backup Check fail (for example: if workstation was switched off overnight)
  • UPDATE: Add option to Backup Integrity Report to list devices without any monitored backup product
  • UPDATE: Add Server and Workstation icons in Managed Online Backup Storage Report
  • BUGFIX: Use correct time zone offset for Managed Online Backup session history
  • BUGFIX: Do not reset Managed Online Backup settings when enabling Password protection for Backup Manager
  • BUGFIX: When downloading Backup Manager installer from dashboard, ensure that Internet Explorer does not show a warning
  • BUGFIX: Allow directories containing the Ampersand (&) character to be entered in the Managed Online Backup inclusion and exclusion lists
  • BUGFIX: When a Managed Online Backup device becomes locally managed, ensure that “Policy manually changed on the device” is entered into the user audit report

Managed Antivirus

  • UPDATE: Add option to Antivirus Protection Report to list devices without any monitored Antivirus product
  • BUGFIX: When running the Antivirus Protection Report with a specific product selected, calculate the total number of devices according to that selection
  • BUGFIX: Ensure that the Managed Antivirus policy is always synchronised in cases where device type differs from that of default policy
  • BUGFIX: When enabling Managed Antivirus on a device via the edit device dialog, apply default policy if selection is not changed
  • BUGFIX: Ensure Managed Antivirus can only be enabled if a policy has been specified

Bandwidth and Server Performance Monitoring alert suppression

  • UPDATE: Add report only mode to Bandwidth and Server Performance Monitoring alert suppression
  • BUGFIX: If Bandwidth and Server Performance Monitoring alert suppression is configured, do not open outage until consecutive failure threshold is exceeded
  • BUGFIX: If Bandwidth and Server Performance Monitoring alert suppression is configured, fail check and generate an alert if it cannot be run due to an error (for example: misconfiguration of SNMP Agent or corrupt performance counter)

Miscellaneous Updates and Bugfixes

  • UPDATE: Option to add Workstations to Client Notes Report
  • UPDATE: For all policy settings dialogs (Take Control, Patch Management, Managed Antivirus, Managed Online Backup, Installation Templates), always inherit policy settings from parent (instead of default)
  • BUGFIX: Show an error when trying to move a device to another site where a device with the same name already exists
  • BUGFIX: When backing up the device configuration from the Dashboard, ensure file is not accessible from web path
  • BUGFIX: Use consistent time format for all elements in Automated Tasks dialog
  • BUGFIX: Use consistent hints when marking errors in the edit device dialogs

Public API

  • UPDATE: New public API call to initiate Take Control connection
  • UPDATE: New public API calls to control Patch Management: list, approve, do_nothing, ignore, inherit, retry and reprocess patches
  • UPDATE: New public API calls to control Managed Antivirus quarantine: list, remove and release items from quarantine
  • UPDATE: New public API calls to control Managed Antivirus scans: list devices to scan and start, pause, resume and cancel scans
  • UPDATE: When listing failing checks, also list the check type
  • BUGFIX: When listing client, correctly count servers and workstations for a site in all scenarios

Agent v8.13.0 Release Candidate

  • UPDATE: Option to re-run Managed Online Backup session automatically should DSC Backup Check fail (for example: if workstation was switched off overnight)
  • UPDATE: Add support for Kaspersky Antivirus 2012 to Antivirus Update Check

SNMP Check and Bandwidth Monitoring Check

The SNMP engine has been rewritten to support parallelism and to reliably retrieve Bandwidth Monitoring data from devices that have fast ports, but only support SNMPv1 with 32-bit counters

  • UPDATE: Use parallel SNMP GET request to reduce time and resource usage required to run multiple SNMP checks
  • BUGFIX: Probe SNMP agent for SNMPv2c support and use 64-bit counters if supported, falling back to SNMPv1 and 32-bit counters otherwise
